Independent World Report is a global magazine of human rights journalism, published in print six times a year:

– Reportage and discussions on the state of rights, freedoms and liberties.
– Dedicated coverage of forgotten people and untold stories.
– Reader-supported through yearly subscriptions.

As a reader-supported magazine (free of advertisements/government funding), Independent World Report champions the worldwide struggle for democracy and human rights by publishing reportage, opinion pieces, photo stories and essays on the state of rights, freedoms and liberties across the globe.

In oppressive societies (dictatorships/theocracies) or tyrannical settings (war/genocide/slavery), seven groups of people are most often the primary targets: women, children, ethnic/religious minorities, LGBT, refugees, writers/journalists, workers. The editorial mission of Independent World Report is to tell their stories.

The Information Age has empowered us in a way that stock quotes, beauty tips or exotic recipes are available within a few clicks while thousands of websites and hundreds of magazines cover the worlds of business or fashion or gastronomy.

In this crowd, Independent World Report is a magazine for global citizens who care and want to be informed about women in Afghanistan, or children in Uzbekistan, or religious minorities in Iran, or LGBT in Uganda, or refugees in Greece, or journalists in Syria, or workers in South Korea.

At the same time, Independent World Report is a platform for those whose voices are often absent or ignored in the international media: a Sahrawi journalist writing from a refugee camp in Algeria, or a Nigerian human rights activist campaigning against religious oppression in Africa, or a Bosnian human rights activist in Denmark, or a Kurdish journalist covering the Turkish atrocities on her people.

Journalism at Independent World Report is supported by our subscribers. In order to carry on with our editorial mission and to ensure the survival of this magazine, we need two thousand subscribers within the first two years, while our immediate survival goal is one thousand subscribers.

Subscriptions are growing slowly and we now have subscribers in thirteen countries: Sweden, South Africa, United States, Germany, India, Canada, Turkey, Bangladesh, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium. As a recognition of their support to Independent World Report, we print the names of our subscribers in the magazine.
