Real witches will not be living in poverty. They will not be living in a witch-hunting areas. This practice comes from pointing the finger at a person for any bad thing that happened. Governments allow this so that the finger points away from them. Education is the only way to solve this problem, but in Africa where old practices are held in high regards over modernization, this will almost never take place.

Witchcraft accusations and witch-hunts are a global phenomenon. Other than Sub-Saharan Africa, both North-East India and Pupua New Guinea could be considered "hot spots" with similar outcomes of stigma, assault and death for the victims.

The reported increase in human rights violations associated with witchcraft accusations was placed on the agenda of the United Nations Human Rights Council by the Special Rapporteur in June 2009. While these were below the radar of human rights monitors these crimes have been of grave concern to Non-Governmental Organisations for some time.

In September 2009 Stepping Stones Nigeria established the Witchcraft and Human Rights Information Network(WHRIN). WHRIN aim to to facilitate partnerships and collaboration between all stakeholders working towards achieving positive social change on the issues of witchcraft and human rights.

WHRIN will be hosting its first international conference with keynote speakers sharing experiences from three continents in London on 23 July 2010. Further information about WHRIN can be found at its website http://www.whrin.or.guk

The phenomenon of child witches is a terrible disease endemic in Africa, which requires greater mobilization from the minds not yet affected by the religious revival that brings schizophrenic, incredibly, the African men of Cro-Magnon. I signed my membership to the call Igwe.

Igwe's leadership in the Center for Inquiry's anti-superstition campaign has been extraordinary. Due to his efforts, it is hoped that witch hunts will become a thing of the past.
